Even though the temperatures start to drop in the fall, there is still plenty of time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air in New Jersey. Ocean Township sits close to the Atlantic shoreline so there is always something to do near the water. Still, if you want to head inland, there are lots of outdoor activities too. Try these great outdoor activities before it gets too cold. 1. Golfing The season for golfing is winding down, so you should get out there before the courses close for the winter. There are several golf clubs and courses in the area, including the nine-hole William F. Larking Golf Course at Colonial Terrace and Hollywood Golf Club, a private club that hosts several tournaments each year. Hominy Hill Golf Course is also nearby. This is one of the top affordable golf courses in New Jersey and offers a warm-up range, beautiful greens, and a walking trail near the course. more 2. Play Disc Golf Head to Wolf Hill Recreation Area in Oceanport for some disc golf. This park has an 18-hole course that you can use during the regular park hours. Disc golf is similar to regular golf except that you use a flying disc, and you throw it from a paver brick tee pad toward a metal basket at the end of the fairway. This course is a great place to get started if you've never tried disc golf before, but it's still challenging for experienced players too. Get a scorecard at the first tee or download one before you hit the course. Allaire State Park also has a disc golf course. This is a challenging course, but it is well-maintained and has nice paver tee pads and good signage to help you get around. 3. Go Hiking Hit the trails at the Monmouth County Park System and get some exercise and fresh air before the snow starts to fall. The park system has over 139 miles of trails ranging from easy to challenging with a number of moderate hiking available too. For some beautiful views while hiking, head to Cattus Island County Park. This is a 500-acre sanctuary with miles of trails to follow along with a 1,500-foot boardwalk where you can see osprey and many other migratory songbirds. 4. Go Biking If you prefer the faster pace of biking, there are plenty of places you can go near Ocean Township. Allaire State Park has many trails, including one that runs along the Manasquan River. You can also bike over on the South Side at Allaire, where 15 different trails offer a range of terrain for both beginners and advanced riders. Bring your bike to Brick Reservoir to ride along the 1.6-mile trail of crushed rock or the Manasquan Reservoir County Park where there's a 5-mile perimeter trail that runs along the reservoir. Enjoy panoramic views over the water as you travel over the well-maintained surface. The temperatures will start to drop soon in New Jersey, and that means snow will begin to fall too. Ocean Community Pool Located on West Park Avenue in Ocean Township, the Ocean Community Pool invites members and non-members to cool off from the summer heat by coming to the pool for a swim. This family-friendly pool is open starting May 25 on weekdays, weekends, and holidays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Ocean Community Pool provides swimming lessons for members and non-members. Swim lessons are the best way to get a beginning swimmer acquainted with the water and comfortable with swimming. If you're not currently a member of the community pool, your child that's taking swimming lessons can utilize the pool for the entire day of their lesson. more Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park is located in Long Branch, New Jersey, and features a 38-acre beach park area that is perfect for swimming, surfing, and soaking up the sun. If you have a large group or event, the beach park provides a picnic tent that must be reserved in advance. Admission for the park and parking fees are charged during the summer from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, although daily and season passes are available for purchase. For the remainder of the year, admission to the beach park is free. During the summer, seashore-oriented programs are offered through the Activity Center. Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk. From April through October, pets are not allowed in the beach park. However, from November through March, pets are allowed in all areas of the beach park but must be on a leash at all times. Fisherman's Cove Conservation Area Fisherman's Cove Conservation Area is situated on approximately 55 acres in Manasquan, New Jersey. This scenic area sports an ideal location for fishing, walking on the beach, going swimming, or sunbathing. The park opens daily at 7 a.m. throughout the year. Specifically for kids, Fisherman's Cove Conservation Area sponsors Tidal Tuesdays every week during the summer months. Enjoy the splash park all day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily during the season. There is a fee to enter, but a discount is available after 4 p.m. Feel free to bring a cooler with some drinks and snacks for the kids. Experience the Sea.Hear.Now Festival The Sea.Hear.Now Festival is a one-of-a-kind experience. The event takes place in September and provides two days of entertainment. I'm sure you'll be hungry when you arrive, so why not try one of these great eateries? Toast City Diner Toast City Diner, located at 516 Cookman Avenue, is a great spot to grab a delicious breakfast. Asbury Park, New Jersey, is a popular destination for people from all over the world. It's about half an hour away from Ocean Township, and it has one of the best beaches in the state. Many music lovers visit this small town, and Bruce Springsteen's first album was called "Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J." Here are some fun outdoor places to visit in Asbury. Convention Hall and Paramount Theatre The Asbury Park Convention Hall and the Paramount Theatre, which host a variety of events, were finished in 1930 when Asbury Park was a glamorous destination for the wealthy. The beautiful architecture contains seashells, anchors, seahorses, and other nautical elements. The structures have extensive intricate metalwork. The Grand Arcade connects the Convention Hall and the Paramount Theatre. These elements offer 40-foot ceilings, oceanfront restaurants, and interesting stores. You can view Asbury Park's annual holiday tree lighting as well as many other fun outdoor events. You can also see a show, go shopping, or just check out this unique set of buildings. more Asbury Splash Park The Asbury Splash Park is right on the boardwalk, so you and your family can easily take a break from shopping and cool down. The Asbury Eighteen is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pedal Boats on Wesley Lake Kids and adults will enjoy getting some exercise and viewing the scenery from a pedal boat on Wesley Lake. These fun vessels are shaped like swans, dragons, herons, pirate ships, and more. Each boat can hold two adults and one child or one adult and two children. The park stays open all year round, with admission charged from Memorial Day through Labor Day. You'll take off from the back of a 31-foot parasail boat and rise up 500 feet over the Atlantic for the ride of your life. If you need to get out of the sun or just take a break, you can go in the cabin or sit out on the sun deck. Belmonte's Ristorante You'll have to bring your own wine or beer when you show up for a meal at Belmonte's Ristorante, but this fantastic local eatery will take care of everything else. Start your dinner off with an appetizer like Pasta Fagioli or a Caprese platter with mozzarella, roasted peppers, tomatoes, and basil. Or choose a salad with fried calamari and beans or spinach and goat cheese. Whatever you choose to whet your appetite, you can bet that the flavors will be fresh and authentic.
