Are you searching for a compact crossover that’s just as capable off the beaten track as it is on the highway? The Jeep Cherokee could be your best option. This two-row SUV has great engine options, a class-leading towing capacity, and four trim options that allow you to choose between utility and luxury. Here’s a rundown of the 2022 Cherokee trim levels put together by our experts here at The Jeep Store in Ocean Township, New Jersey.
2022 Jeep Cherokee Overview
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee is an SUV with seating for up to five people and an ample cargo area at the rear. Jeep offers two engine options: a V-6 that puts out 271 horsepower and a turbocharged V-4 that generates 270 horsepower. The V-6 performs best for towing, achieving the Cherokee’s maximum capacity of 4,500 pounds. The turbocharged V-4 offers punchier acceleration off the line as it generates more torque.
There are four trims to choose from in the Cherokee lineup: X, Latitude LUX, Trailhawk, and Limited. The trim you choose can affect the cabin’s interior design and the available engines and off-roading features. Each trim has something unique to offer our Jeep customers, whether that’s incredible off-roading or a luxury ride.
Cherokee X
The base Cherokee X is a great choice if you want an affordable crossover that’s capable of handling some rough terrain. A V-6 engine paired with nine-speed automatic transmission power this model. Four-wheel drive comes standard, and you also get off-road suspension, multiple driving modes for different surfaces, and all-terrain tires.
Inside the cabin, the Cherokee X has cloth upholstery, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The infotainment system has an 8.4-inch screen plus a six-speaker stereo. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You can adjust basic settings, such as volume and climate control, using the voice recognition feature.
The Cherokee X has a decent selection of standard safety features, including forward collision warning and emergency braking assist. Highway drivers will benefit from lane departure warnings and keep lane assist, while the rear parking sensors are helpful when you’re maneuvering your Cherokee into a tight spot.
Cherokee Latitude LUX
The Latitude LUX drops some of the X’s off-roading features in favor of a more upscale interior. This makes the Latitude LUX a strong choice for you if you spend most of your driving time on highway or city roads and don’t plan on heading off the beaten track very often.
The cabin boasts Nappa leather upholstery and a power-adjustable passenger seat. The infotainment system gains a couple of USB ports in the rear row and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, so you can monitor your vehicle’s performance. Other features in this trim include a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, and proximity keyless entry.
Under the hood, the V-6 remains the standard engine. However, you can opt for the turbocharged four-cylinder unit instead. The Latitude LUX is the only Cherokee in the lineup to come with standard front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is available as an optional upgrade at the cost of $1,500.
Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
If off-roading is what gets you excited, you can’t afford to look past the Cherokee Trailhawk. It’s equipped with everything you’ll need to tackle the most challenging trail or go rock crawling. One of the biggest bonuses with this trim is Jeep’s Active Drive Lock 4WD system, which includes a rear locking differential for improved control.
Other off-roading features include a rear skid plate, all-terrain tires, and low-speed crawl control. On top of this, the Cherokee Trailhawk has an impressive 8.7 inches of ground clearance, enabling it to evade rocks and other large objects. The Trailhawk trim is the only one in the lineup with a rock mode among the Cherokee’s selection of driving modes. The other trims get snow, sand/mud, auto, and sport.
The Trailhawk offers the V-6 as your only engine option. Inside the cabin, you get a cloth and leather upholstery, and you can upgrade with options such as a sunroof and a nine-speaker premium stereo.
Cherokee Limited
The Cherokee Limited is the right choice for you if you want access to a luxurious cabin and all the tech features this crossover has to offer. The cabin features leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a nine-speaker premium stereo. Opting for the Elite package adds ventilated front seats and heated rear seats for extra luxury.
Four-wheel drive is standard with this trim. Additional helpful driving features include adaptive cruise control, which can automatically adjust your speed on the highway, and automatic high-beam headlights. The automatic parking assist feature can help you move in and out of the tightest of parking spots.
